On behalf of our Manufacturing Client in Shannon, Co Clare, we are currently sourcing a Continuous Improvement & Safety Engineer to join their Team.

The position is a dual role with responsibility for Continuous improvement and safety.

The continuous improvement element will report to the Engineering Manager as part of the Engineering Team the safety element will report to the General Manager. The position requires an understanding of engineering principles, comfortable with general CNC machining operation and concepts. The position also requires delivery of all H&S projects and initiatives in the plant involving people, processes, machinery, and equipment.

 

The Responsibilities Continuous Improvement

  • Support engineering and manufacturing through the continuous development, control and improvement of manufacturing processes and support day-to-day operations to achieve targets.
  • Support Process Engineers with product costing, process improvement, subcontract operations and industrial studies. Support installation, commission and validation of Products, Processes and Equipment. 
  • Develop and present to senior management the cost benefit analysis of projects as part of the CI pipeline.  
  • Interface with OEM vendors and contractors.
  • Support key business metrics by Identifying, leading, and delivering cost, process, and technical improvements.  
  • Keep up to date with the latest advances in technology. 
  • Engage with the appropriate personnel in the identification and resolution of corrective / preventative actions to address quality, technical and manufacturing issues.

 The Responsibilities Safety

  • Ensure compliance across the plant to Company, Corporate, Legal and Environmental responsibilities. 
  • Conduct risk assessments, communicate findings and ensure actions are closed within allocated timeframes. 
  • Advise and represent the company on all regulatory matters. 
  • Liaise with external Health and Safety related bodies. 
  • Complete incident investigation activities including the identification of root cause and follow up on correction actions. 
  • Represent the plant on all H&S matters internally and externally including Monthly and Quarterly Divisional Reviews. 
  • Deliver Health and Safety inductions to new hires, prepare and deliver toolbox talks, ensuring all regulatory H&S training are maintained and up to date. 
  • Take ownership of the delivery and development of H&S projects and policies  
  • Complete all H&S reporting requirements for the plant. 
  • Audit performance and compliance with policies, programmes, and procedures. 
  • 6S site co-ordinator

  

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

§ Primary Degree in engineering or science discipline.

§ Qualification in Health and Safety or 3 years’ experience in Health and Safety.

§ Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing engineering role

  • Experience in leading projects, preferably Processes improvements.
  •  Solid understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles, statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, mechanical vibrations, heat transfer, materials selection, and physics 
  • Working knowledge of CNC Machine Tools & NC, CNC programming, with exposure to PLC Programming.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve processing issues.
  •  Confident in FAT and SAT requirements on new equipment introductions, process controls, and process changes.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, or qualification on Six Sigma, green or black belt certification would be an advantage.
