A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager – Microbiology to lead its microbiology team at a state-of-the-art facility in Cashel, Co. Tipperary.

This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Senior Quality Director / Qualified Person, offering the chance to shape laboratory operations, drive compliance excellence, and contribute to strategic site growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing microbiology team.
• Oversee microbiology testing processes, lab design, and setup activities.
• Manage method and specification-related change controls.
• Lead microbiological investigations and technical transfers.
• Oversee and coordinate contract laboratory testing.
• Liaise with regulatory departments and external authorities on microbiology compliance.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless quality operations.
• Support strategic site expansion and development of next-generation laboratory capabilities.
• Identify and implement process improvements across efficiency, resources, and budget.
• Establish and track KPIs for continuous quality performance.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Microbiology (essential).
• 10+ years’ experience in a microbiology laboratory environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity (Supervisor/Manager level).
• Proven experience in a regulated pharmaceutical or biopharma setting.
• Strong understanding of GMP, quality systems, and regulatory standards.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams.
• Skilled in internal auditing, process optimisation, and strategic planning.
• Must be eligible to work in Ireland.
