Operations Manager – Laboratory

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead a commercial laboratory based in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. This key leadership role will drive the strategic and day-to-day delivery of high-quality, compliant laboratory services while supporting sustainable business growth.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for shaping and delivering the business plan, optimising performance and pricing, enhancing client relationships, and championing continuous improvement across people, processes, safety, and quality. You will ensure operations meet regulatory and accreditation requirements while aligning with broader organisational strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver and report on the Strategic Business Plan, including monthly performance updates.
• Identify growth opportunities and develop strategies for pricing, diversification, and higher-margin services.
• Lead business development initiatives, strengthen client relationships, and support retention and cross-selling.
• Ensure excellent service delivery with a strong focus on quality, operations, and customer experience.
• Drive continuous improvement by implementing initiatives and sharing best practices.
• Monitor KPIs and take proactive action to improve performance.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the team, including recruitment, training, and succession planning.
• Ensure full implementation of Policies, Procedures, and Quality Management Systems.
• Maintain legal, safety, and accreditation compliance while supporting sustainability initiatives.

Requirements

• 3–5 years’ experience in a similar operations or laboratory leadership role.
• A scientific degree or significant experience in a food manufacturing business or commercial laboratory.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and team-management skills.
• Curious, innovative mindset with an interest in technology and collaboration.
• Flexible, proactive approach with a passion for continuous improvement.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
