On behalf of our Manufacturing Client in Shannon, Co Clare we are currently sourcing a Plant Metallurgist / Heat Treatment Supervisor to join their Team.
The Position
Supervise the Heat Treat operation in conjunction with directing the plant metallurgical services.
The Responsibilities
- Supervise the heat treat operator employees, providing guidance and support where required.
- Liaison with production on throughput and KPIs are fully supported.
- Review new and revised customer specifications and advise the Sales and QA teams of any non-standard technical requirements when quoting new or existing customers.
- Resolve any arising technical issues with customers and appropriate QA and Production staff (or subcontractors).
- Provide metallurgical support in the development of new accounts and new products.
- Advise on the impact of material specification changes on business.
- Develop relationships with key customer technical personnel as appropriate.
- Initiating and assisting in research and development projects from conception to implementation.
- Obtain customer approvals for new suppliers and products.
- Investigation of customer complaints of a technical nature including the review of issues with customers
- Analyze complaints and internal non-conforming items arising from processing issues and to identify and implement improved operating procedures.
- Review heat treatment procedures and advice on the best methods to ensure material properties are achieved on a consistent basis.
- In conjunction with the engineering department has responsibility for selection and recommendation of alternative materials for in-house.
- Co-ordinate the annual preventative maintenance programs for all vacuum and atmospheric furnaces in conjunction with maintenance department
- Ensure equipment calibrations are performed in accordance with quality schedule.
- Responsible for annual and quarterly budgets for the Heat Treatment department and pursuing any cost reductions.
Education & Qualifications
- Minimum of Degree in relevant material science or engineering discipline.
- Practical experience with material characterization techniques (Metallographic, failure analysis, etc) would be an advantage.
Experience
- 2 - 5 years working in a machine orientated manufacturing environment. Ideally Heat Treat experience would be an advantage.
- Six Sigma / Lean expertise demonstrated in a manufacturing environment an advantage.
Personal Skills and Attributes
Self-motivated, work to drawings, process sheets. Must be conscious of a changing business environment and participate in new work practices and systems such as Lean manufacturing techniques, SMED, 6S, Kaizen and TOC.

§ Good organizational skills, ability to priorities work and multiple tasks
- Good attention to detail, resulting in high level of accuracy in all aspects of the position,
§ Strong analytical, organization, prioritization, and project management skills.

- Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
