Position Description

This is a maternity cover role with a contract duration of 15 months.

ESB Smart Energy Services is looking for a highly motivated and engaged person to manage and develop our portfolio of battery assets and our demand response business in Britain and Ireland.

You will have an engineering or related technical qualification and proven capability in managing customer and supplier contracts in the energy industry. You will have a good understanding of how batteries and flexible demand participate in energy markets.

You will engage with customers and suppliers to optimise the technical and commercial performance of our storage assets. You will engage with regulatory stakeholders to ensure compliance. You will work with other teams in ESB to develop new opportunities.

This role is critical to achieving Smart Energy Services’ commercial and sustainability objectives, enabling the renewable transition of the electricity system, and supporting ESB’s Net Zero strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise including keeping up to date with technical, commercial, and policy and regulatory developments in flexibility markets across Ireland and the UK
  • Manage the Demand Response business in Ireland ensuring all contractual obligations are met
  • Manage the existing behind-the-meter battery business in the UK to optimise performance and explore future opportunities
  • Support the development of projects on large energy user sites by working with the sales, commercial and delivery teams in Smart Energy Services to develop innovative propositions, revenue strategies and business cases
  • Work with internal stakeholders (Finance, Insurance, Legal, Procurement, Tax) to develop commercial agreements for flexible projects
  • Manage and develop relationships with our customers, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Monitor, analyse and report on the technical and commercial performance of our battery and demand-side businesses

Experience and Qualifications 

Essential

  • 3rd-level qualification in an engineering or related technical discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience in the energy, utilities, or related industries
  • Experience with responsibility for managing customer and supplier contracts
  • Proven expertise in analysing, reporting, and visualisation of data

Desirable

  • Understanding of energy markets and regulation in Ireland and Britain
  • Experience working with sustainable energy technologies, battery energy storage and demand response
  • Experience managing regulatory stakeholder relationships
  • Irish/EU driving licence

Location

This position will be based in ESB’s Head Office in Dublin or in ESB Customer Solutions office in Swift Square, Dublin 9. Some national and international travel may be required from time to time.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least two days per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary

€57,500 - €68,100 per annum,  depending on experience.
