Position Description 

The Generation Engineering Civil & Environment Group (GECE) within Engineering and Major Projects provides the full range of planning, design, construction, operation & maintenance and management services required for electricity industry infrastructure projects in Ireland and overseas. This position includes the delivery of specialist geospatial data acquisition, collation and assessment to support GECE in its delivery of work packages to ESB. It is anticipated that this role will provide and maintain a strategic insight into the associated technology and technology advances to the extent that GECE will continue to position itself to provide the necessary project support services in this field. The development and maintenance of appropriate safety and quality assurances processes in this field is seen as a fundamental requirement of this role.

A Senior Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist with expertise in GIS technologies is required to deliver high quality GIS products and innovations, produce GECE drawings and maps across a range of Electrical Infrastructure projects within ESB.

 Key Responsibilities

Geospatial Design & Documentation

  • Prepare drawings, maps, and documentation for planning applications, environmental reports, and preliminary project designs.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers and project development specialists to produce high-quality visual outputs.

GIS Analysis & Innovation

  • Respond to requests for GIS analysis and produce maps and illustrations for special projects.
  • Develop innovative GIS products to enhance business efficiency and promote technological advancements aligned with ESB Group’s strategic objectives.

Technical Expertise & Support

  • Provide specialist technical advice and design capability in Geomatics.
  • Offer ongoing technical support, training, and mentoring to CERE staff and junior team members on GIS-related work.

Data Management & Standards

  • Sustainably manage the ESB GIS Data Library, ensuring geospatial databases are created, modified, maintained, and analysed in line with industry standards and company procedures.

Cross-Disciplinary Coordination

  • Coordinate with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Architects, Quantity Surveyors, and other disciplines as required.

Strategic Development & Business Cases

  • Maintain deep knowledge of developments and technological advances in the field.
  • Prepare business cases to support CEE in building expertise and capability.

Governance, Safety & Quality

  • Manage field data collection apps and datasets for asset condition monitoring and development.
  • Oversee implementation of work instructions, procedures, and proposals related to geospatial work.
  • Ensure EMP Quality Procedures and safety protocols are followed in conjunction with Team Leaders.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

Experience & Technical Proficiency

  • Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in geospatial mapping and data analysis.
  • Proven experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS extensions (e.g. Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst) & Experience with AutoCAD
  • Strong analytical abilities, logical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to make quality decisions and sound judgments.
  • Ability to plan and organise effectively across multiple ongoing activities and priorities with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of developments in Geomatics and related technological advances.

Qualifications

Essential

• Level 8 Degree in Geomatics or equivalent qualification.

Desirable

• Level 9 Geomatics or equivalent qualification.

• Chartered status in a recognised professional institution.

• Full driving licence and access to a car

Location  

This role is based in EMP Offices, OneDAC but travel to project locations is a key requirement of the role.

The successful candidate may combine working from home within the Republic of Ireland, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and may change as we learn about hybrid working.  Site visits is also a feature of this role which will require a certain amount of travel within Ireland.

 Salary

€57,000 - €68,000 per annum
