The Generation Engineering Delivery (GED) Department within Engineering and Major Projects provides a full range of construction management, site management, contract management and commercial management services required for the delivery of electricity industry infrastructure projects in Ireland and overseas.

The Site Resident Civil Engineer / Site Manager will be responsible for the delivery of largescale generation projects in Ireland, as it delivers on its Net Zero 2040 strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and management of Contractors undertaking civil works contracts predominantly associated with our generation construction sites in Dublin and the outer Dublin regions of Ireland. This role requires ensuring project contracts are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, environmental and planning compliance as well as commercial and contract adherence.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Manage, monitor and supervise all on-site activities of our Contractors, specifically for generation projects construction and/or demolition contracts during enabling works, main construction and commissioning activities.
  • Administer the Contracts for main Contractors on site, including discharging of delegated responsibilities by the Engineer and corresponding with the Contractor in relation to all site issues.
  • Ensure strong compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, and planning compliance, with a strong emphasis on the specific challenges of electricity generating power plant construction.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the project team, on site for the specified project.
  • Monitor project progress and prepare regular reports for the overall project team and senior management.
  • Coordinate with project managers, design engineers, safety specialists, environmental specialists and other stakeholders to ensure seamless Contract execution.
  • Undertake Quality Assurance documentation and Site Inspection Test Plan reviews, audits and checks of the civil works on the site throughout the construction period.
  • Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise on-site promptly and effectively in collaboration with other project team members.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of site activities, including daily logs, inspections, and incident reports.
  • Support the assessment and resolution of Contractor’s claims and commercial risks.
  • Support the project team with Third Party Stakeholder Management including Landowners interactions.
  • Mentoring and training of junior staff.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum +7 years’ experience in civil engineering with experience of construction site management for energy infrastructure projects.
  • Level 8 Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of FIDIC Contracts and the administration of Contracts in this form.
  • Led successful stakeholder engagements with internal and external relevant parties and authorities.
  • Strong delivery and solution focused in a commercially driven environment.
  • Strong capability in assessing, communicating and managing project critical risks. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work on one’s own initiative while also collaborating strongly within a team.
  • Proficient IT skills 
  • Full driving license with access to a car.

Desirable

  • Acted in the position of Site Resident Civil Engineer and/or Site Manager in previous energy infrastructure projects.
  • Chartered status of a recognised professional institution
  • Project Management qualification

Location

The base location for this position is the EMP office in Dublin. This role will be predominantly based on construction sites in the Dublin region though travel to other generation project locations may be required from time to time.

Reporting to

Construction, Commercial & Contracts Group Manager, Generation Engineering Delivery.

A reserve list will be held for 6 months in which you will be placed if you are suitable for the role.

Salary

€71,000 to €84,000 per annum
