Senior Electrical Design Engineer - County Galway.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability & Quality standards, policies and procedures are developed into all designs and design outputs.
• Manage Electrical Department Design Engineers to ensure all design works meet the required quality standards, project schedules and budgets.
• Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines in Process, Mechanical, Control & Automation, Civil and Structural to ensure an optimum design solution is reached.
• Liaise with the project teams to ensure that the design works include the compilation and review of site surveys and condition reports as required.
• M&I Listings.
• Electrical load balances, MIC load calculations.
• Medium Voltage design.
• Generator design and sizing for back-up applications.
• General electrical services design.
• Lighting and emergency lighting designs.
• Earthing and Lightning protection designs
• Cable sizing/cable schedules.
• Review I/O of listings.
• Review of control panel drawings schematics.
• Review of specialist reports on harmonics and selection of equipment to mitigate the harmonics.
• Solar PV generation and battery storage and renewable generators for small applications.
• Lead Design Risk Reviews ensuring that the design works meet all Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability & Quality standards
• Undertake site surveys and preliminary condition reports on existing infrastructure/assets.
• Procurement of packages for LV works such as Main Distribution Boards, MCC's and control panels, automation hardware/software, starters, electrical installation works, earthing and lightning protection.
• Procurement packages for MV works such as distribution transformers, MV switchgear and specialist design services for MV works.
• Procure and manage 3rd party design consultants as required.
• For all procurement packages, provide a technical and commercial review of tender returns, ensuring tender returns align to the required standards and demonstrate value for money. Provide a recommendation to procurement.
• Provide a detailed and robust handover to site delivery teams including the close-out of any design comments or construction related queries.
• With the tendering team, assist in the preparation and pricing of tender submissions for electrical works.
• Encourage use of innovative technology and ways of working within the team.
• Harness opportunities and mitigate risk through effective design and risk mitigation measures during the lifecycle of the design process.
• Ensure you are aware of local Asset Standards, Electrical Standards, WIMES, etc. and embed requirements of same into respective designs.
• Keep appraised of the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
For specific projects you will also be required to fulfil the role of Senior Electrical Project Engineer at site. The main duties and responsibilities will include:
• Ensuring Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to on-site.
• Work on assigned projects to manage the delivery of the electrical and installation scope including procurement, installation supervision, commissioning and handover.
• Liaise with the relevant employer's representatives, consultants, subcontractors, site staff, commercial resources and the general site team involved in the project.
• Management of site personnel and subcontractors ensuring that work is conducted in line with design documentation and in accordance with contract programme.
• Ensuring design, materials and workmanship are in line with the specified requirements.
• Completion of quality checks to ensure works are in line with design outputs and ready for commissioning works.
• Co-ordination of project close-out stages including handover to the end user. Preparation and submission of project handover files including as-built drawings and control panel drawings schematics post-commissioning incorporating any changes made during the installation phase.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience requirements:
• Minimum Level 7/8 Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience, preferably in the water & wastewater sector.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent planning, organisational, training, teamwork, problem resolution and presentation skills
• Excellent literacy, numeric and IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk packages
• Working knowledge of Trimble ProDesign (Amtech)or ETAP calculation software.
