Repak leads recycling and sustainability of packaging waste for business in Ireland for its 3,400+ Members. It advocates for a new sustainable circular economy, educating businesses/consumers on reducing/recycling packaging waste. It is a not-for-profit organisation and operates a complex platform as an Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme approved by the Department of Environment, Climate & Communications. Repak’s passion is protecting the environment & reducing the impact of packaging waste, while helping to deliver Ireland’s EU recycling targets.

Based in Dublin, reporting directly to the Chair and the Board, the new CEO will succeed the retiring CEO to lead a strong, committed senior management team.

Key elements of the role will include:

  • Development and delivery of strategies for Board approval to ensure that Ireland’s recycling targets are achieved in a financially prudent and sustainable manner, while demonstrating leadership in best practice and innovation at National/EU level in the delivery of objectives and results.
  • Preparation of annual business plans, ensuring the business meets its short and long-term commitments on ROI/EU targets/legislation; under pinned by strategic, commercial and operational development of a dynamic organisation with the capability to anticipate local & global change.
  • Ensuring strong financial and corporate governance procedures, protecting the organisation and employees while enhancing Repak’s reputation.
  • Strong positive engagement with all stakeholders (Members, Board, Government, Consumers), appropriate media channels and brand ambassadors – communicating key messages to the wider public.

The Successful Candidate will be:

  • Ideally educated to graduate/post-graduate level with proven General Management and Board reporting experience. A recognised agile leader, motivator and mentor who drives purpose, vision and results with the ability to cultivate innovation and trust in a complex operating environment.
  • Diplomatic and decisive – able to balance agendas, represent the organisation on environmental issues in public fora; with excellent negotiation skills and the gravitas to represent Irish business at local government and EU level. A GM with deep understanding of the nuances involved in leading a service-based organisation involving complex transactions; along with the associated financial, regulatory and commercial pressures.
  • A professional communicator/influencer/advocate - committed to environmental sustainability; ideally well versed in public representation and influencing of Irish/EU legislative, supply chain, technical and operational issues. An appreciation of the producer/ retailer landscape would be an advantage.
  • Highly dependable with a strong understanding of corporate governance and the deep personal integrity, confidence and independence to make sound judgement calls
