Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) is a statutory body governed by the Broadcasting Act 2009 and charged with responsibilities including establishing, maintaining, and operating a national television and sound broadcasting service. As Ireland’s largest media organisation, and the largest producer and commissioner of original programming and journalism, RTÉ has a broad public service remit to serve all audiences with a wide breadth of programming and content.

Within the next decade, RTÉ will transform into an innovative, IP-based public service media provider. This exciting transition will make RTÉ fully integrated and personalised, offering new ways to meet the evolving needs of diverse audiences across a variety of devices.

RTÉ is looking for an exceptional leader to join their leadership team as Director of Video. This pivotal role will champion and deliver content delivery, setting the benchmark for quality broadcasting in Ireland in alignment with RTÉ’s New Direction Strategy. Reporting directly to the Director-General, the Director of Video will be instrumental in continuing RTÉ’s journey of transformation in responding to ongoing change.

DIRECTOR OF VIDEO

The Director of Video is the senior creative lead with overall responsibility for the development and management of RTÉ’s commissioning for television and Player across Entertainment, Music & Comedy, Arts & Culture, Irish Language, Drama, Factual, Young People’s Programming and Sports.

The Director of Video will:

• Spearhead the development and delivery of all television output, in-house production, and commissioned content on RTÉ One, RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.

• Deliver content that aligns seamlessly with the New Direction Strategy, adhering to schedule plans and associated budgets, while delivering programmes that are uniquely Irish, ground-breaking and representative.

• Craft and execute a comprehensive editorial strategy across all of RTÉ’s television stations and RTÉ Player.

• Collaborate strategically with the Commercial team to maximise commercial revenue across television and Player.

• Curate compelling content, deploying cutting-edge strategies to educate and engage with audiences, while driving efforts to reach larger and more diverse audiences.

• Guarantee RTÉ’s output meets its obligations as Ireland’s Public Service Media organisation, addressing the needs of key stakeholders and reflecting culture in Ireland and contemporary society.

• Collaborate closely with the Inclusion team / Diversity and Inclusion Lead to realise RTÉ’s diversity and inclusion goals and bolster RTÉ’s efforts to serve diverse audiences.

The successful candidate will have:

• Shrewd editorial judgment, honed through senior leadership roles in editorial, production, or content delivery with a proven track record of making impactful decisions on sensitive content matters.

• Comprehensive experience in visual output, including production, commissioning, acquisition, and scheduling of programming across various channels and in all programme genres.

• Significant leadership experience, managing diverse senior and executive level stakeholders and an ability to influence, collaborate and negotiate with senior internal and external stakeholders.

• An exceptionally strong understanding of Public Service

• Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret audience insights and manage budgets effectively.

• Excellent and up-to-date knowledge of platforms and technologies

• Commitment to inclusivity and respect, advocating and embodying diversity across the role and the entire organisation.
