As they continue to grow, they are looking for a dedicated and skilled Health and Safety Officer to join our team and contribute to maintaining and improving the safety standards across a large and ongoing pharmaceutical project they have in Westport, Mayo!

About Your New Role as a Health and Safety Officer:

As the Health and Safety Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of our employees and contractors on construction sites. You will be responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation, and promoting a culture of safety across all operations with the following main duties below:

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in line with current legislation and company standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with site safety regulations.
  • Ensure that all health and safety documentation, including risk assessments and method statements, is maintained and up to date.
  • Provide health and safety training and inductions to new employees, subcontractors, and site personnel.
  • Investigate accidents and near-misses, preparing reports and recommending corrective actions.
  • Monitor and evaluate health and safety performance, preparing reports for senior management.
  • Ensure the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety measures across all construction sites.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies and ensure the company meets all legal requirements.

What Skills You Need:

  • A relevant Health and Safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
  • Proven 2 years experience in a Health and Safety Officer role ideally within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction site safety regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage with all levels of staff.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment, incident investigation, and accident reporting.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and addressing health and safety issues.
  • Full driving license

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with construction safety management software.
  • First Aid and Fire Safety certifications.
  • Knowledge of environmental management and sustainability practices.
