 Role

 We are seeking an Assistant News Editor in our integrated editorial team across both the Irish Examiner and The Echo based in Cork. This role, reporting to the News Editor will prioritise the publication of news across digital and print through assisting with the assembly of the daily news agenda.

 Responsibilities

 Content  

• Ensure news stories are assigned, delivered, processed and published on the appropriate platform. 
• Manage news resources to ensure news coverage is fast and accurate. 
• Prioritising the publication of news on digital platforms; exercising sound editorial judgment and, where appropriate, the need for speed when carrying out this task. 
• Managing short, medium and long-term planning of news coverage under the direction of the News Editor.   
• Generate content concepts and ideas, contributing to the development of new projects and special news features. 

 Audience and Subscriber Growth  

• Maximise audience and engagement through timely digital and print publication, careful story commissioning and selection.  
• Commission news video, audio, graphics, maps or photos as required. 
• Participate in initiatives to increase traffic, appeal to our audiences and grow subscriber numbers under the direction of the News Editor.   

 Leadership and People Management  

• Assisting the News Editor and the Deputy News Editors in leading the newsroom in the transition to a fully digital media organisation.  
• Assisting in the management of newsroom staff and contributors within agreed budgets, including assigning stories to reporters for digital and print publications. 
• Assisting in staff rostering, ensuring newsroom resourcing is covered.   
• Provide feedback to reporters and ensure content meets legal and taste standards prior to publication. 
• Participate and sometimes lead relevant daily news conferences if required. 
• Deputise for the Deputy News Editor and/or News Editor if and as required 
•  Other occasional or additional duties as may be required by the News Editor.
