Our client is a leading pharmaceutical company with significant operations in Cork. A contract position now exists for a VAT Analyst to join the Finance Shared Service Centre in Cork.

Job Purpose

  • Manage the process for accurate and timely submission of Intrastat Returns, VAT returns and EC Sales listing’s for multiple European VAT registrations. This includes ensuring group trade is in compliance with EU and local VAT legislation and the management of VAT Audits as and when they arise
  • Ensure all VAT receivables are received on a timely basis and payments to Tax authorities are made without delay or penalty.
  • Responsible for monthly reporting and review of VAT balances in compliance with IFRS and company Finance Manual. Monitor outstanding balances due from various tax authorities and highlight any recoverability issues as appropriate
  • Liaise and work with internal and external parties on issue identification and resolution in relation to Indirect tax matters
  • Incorporate Indirect Tax compliance aspects of business change within operational ways of working, specifically, within the accounting package
  • Seek to continually develop understanding and knowledge of current Indirect tax requirements.
  • Identify any system changes including submission of change controls. Ensure implementation in a timely fashion to ensure accurate VAT & Intrastat reporting in compliance with Indirect Tax legislation (e.g. changes in VAT rates).
  • Drive improvement in current processes within the Indirect Tax area
  • Develop an environment of continuous improvement within your team and ensure all members are continuously looking for ways of improving processes
  • Drive Improvements in VAT processes and regularly assess systems capability to enable accurate & timely reporting

Technical Responsibilities

  • Detailed knowledge and proven experience of completing compliance activities including Intrastat, EC Sales Listing’s and VAT returns across Europe.
  • Knowledge of company Trading Model & Trading Partner Operations
  • Responds positively and appropriately to queries from within the company and external contacts

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective communicator with non-technical audiences.


Basic Experience

  • Masters in Accounting or Degree Qualified with some relevant experience
  • Part Qualified Accountant or Tax Consultant with some relevant experience
  • Self reliance and ability to operate on own, within established policies.
  • Calm under pressure, able to plan and balance conflicting demand
  • Works well as a team member, actively listens and is responsive to others
  • Proven ability to act appropriately on own initiative to solve issues which arise
  • Proven ability to escalate issues appropriately


Preferred Experience
Understanding of operations and trading within a large multinational corporation or experience of working.
