Purpose and Context:
You'll work with the Ministry and with the trainer in the Teacher Resource Centre in Vaavu Atoll to improve the professional development of teachers, supervisors and head teachers.
The Maldives is a stunning holiday destination but it is also a country facing major problems and disparities in the quality of its education delivery. All children have access to at least 7 years of schooling, but the standard of education is poor. Many teachers are untrained, using a limited range of methodologies.
Responsibilities:
- Build the capacity of the Teacher Resource Centre Trainer to deliver effective training programmes
- Develop and deliver training programs for primary school teachers and supervisors
- Support the strengthening of networks, enabling teachers and supervisors to share learning and advocate for change
- Visit local schools to demonstrate child-centred teaching methods.
Experience Required:
- Qualified primary teacher with at least 2 years' classroom experience
- Knowledge and experience of developing positive learning environments and play/activity based teaching methods
- Good command of ICT
- Experience in coaching adults preferable, though not essential.
Start Date: VSO education placements begin in Sept/Oct and Jan/Feb.
