CHIEF UNDERWRITING OFFICER – CAYMAN
Our client is a leading, privately owned insurance company that operate across the Caribbean with its headquarters in the Cayman Islands.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors this senior position is pivotal to the success of the company’s operations and profits.
Responsibilities
· Oversees all aspects of the underwriting activities of the Company including monitoring and controlling the Company's catastrophe exposures and input on the structuring of the Company's reinsurance program.
· Directs underwriting strategy, planning and forecasts; conferring with CEO and Executive Management Team.
· Studies, analyses and reports on trends, opportunities for expansion and projection of future company growth.
· Developing and enhancing underwriting and risk management philosophies and procedures according to the needs of the Company and market conditions.
· Provides high-level expertise and guidance in technical insurance matters.
· Development and/or enhancement of new and/or existing products and market entries. Ensuring that products are competitive from a pricing and coverage standpoint and assures that products are in compliance with ail insurance laws, regulations and Company strategic plans.
· Responsible for high-level administrative functions within the department which include performance management, anticipation of staffing needs,
· hiring new associates, assurance of proper training programs and performs disciplinary measures when necessary.
· Oversees periodic underwriting audits to be certain philosophies and procedures are being followed.
Requirements
· In view of the technical and managerial requirements of this position, it is desirable that the successful applicant will have a minimum of 10 years experience in the insurance industry and at least 5 years of senior underwriting management expertise.
· Candidates must have a proven track record in underwriting property risks throughout the Caribbean.
· An FCII or equivalent qualification is essential with an MBA or other post secondary education.
· Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, while maintaining positive, client focus and strong interpersonal skills.
· Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
