Position : Director of Nursing - North Dublin - Nursing Home

You will be a RGN with ABA Pin and 7++ years post qualification experience including a minimum of 3 years in a nursing home environment, caring for the elderly.



Job Summary: The Director needs to ensure that the highest standards of nursing care are delivered to residents & also needs to lead the creation of a homely environment where residents, Quality of Life is the key focus. This includes managing the facility's environment to ensure that it is conducive to meeting the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of residents.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Nursing Practice: Ensure all Policies, Procedures and Guidelines are implemented and in practice at all levels of staff

Provide strategic and clinical leadership and direction for nursing and related services which results in the delivery of effective, efficient, quality assured and patient centred nursing care

• Ensure Compliance with all appropriate Regulations including but not limited to:
o Health Bill
o Nursing Homes Act 1990
o Nursing Home Regulations 1993
o Code of Practice for Nursing Homes 1995
o Safety, Health at work Act 1989
o An Bord Altranais guidelines on the administration of medical preparations
o An Bord Altranais` Code of Professional Conduct
o HSE Standards and Guidelines
• Ensure all Policies, Procedures and Guidelines are up to date and in place
• Ensure all nursing care is individualised and holistic to meet resident's needs
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.
• Ensure all Nursing Staff are equipped to deliver this individual care approach
• Ensure effective delegation and allocation of care assistants duties
• Ensure efficient and adequate cover of Care and qualified staff in accordance with the budget and Regulations
• Provision of all clinical documentation

Leadership - People Management & Communication

Create a trusting relationship and a harmonious environment between Residents, Relatives and CareChoice. Create a Motivated staff via distributed leadership, effective communication and participation at all levels. Empower and motivate all levels of staff to reach their potential to deliver to our residents on a daily basis

Human Resource Functions for Care and Nursing Staff:
• Recruitment
Ensure there is an effective recruitment process in place resulting in the appropriate staff being employed
• Induction
Ensure there is an measurable and effective induction process in place for all Nursing and Care Staff
• Training & Development
Identify training needs for all levels of Nursing & Care Staff
Create and implement a delivery plan to meet these needs within the budget allocated
Create and implement an assessment process that measure the effectiveness of all training for the individual and the organisation

Stakeholder/Partner/Supplier Management

Work with all stakeholders/partner/supplier in the facility to ensure the Quality of Life goal for all residents is met

Quality Framework and Continuous Improvement Framework

Lead the vision and implementation of both the Quality and the Continuous Improvement program of work to achieve Best Practice eg. EIQA Quality Program for Nursing Homes / Computerisation Nursing Records
