Material Scientist/ Analytical Chemist - Junior role -Permanent
Purpose of the job:
The Market Support Centre (MSC) is based in Shannon and employs a team of specialised engineers, scientists and technicians to conduct a range activities in support of Element Six’ global customer base across the entire product applications range including metal, wood, composites, construction, mining and oil and gas. The MSC also supports Element Six production and research & development activities. The MSC Analytical Laboratory compromises a state-of the art laboratory and a dedicated team that provide materials analysis support to MSC activities.

The MSC Analytical Laboratory compromises a state-of the art laboratory and a dedicated team that provide materials analysis support to MSC activities.
As a member of the MSC Analytical Laboratory team, the incumbent will be involved in the analysis of customer queries and other material science activities including those related to research and development. To achieve the stated objective the incumbent will utilise a wide range of state of the art analytical equipment and draw on the experience of team members to generate an understanding of relevant material characteristics.
Other responsibilities will include:
- the sustainability of technical knowledge by preparation and issuing of technical reports and procedures and the maintenance of relevant databases and where appropriate,
- responsibility for maintaining the highest scientific and technical standards in the MSC Analytical Laboratory by ensuring all experimental work is carried out in the accordance with departmental standards.
- seek opportunities to continually improve test and operating procedures.
- contribute to the development and refinement of the companies Intellectual Property Portfolio with a particular emphasis on materials-based patents.
- Reporting to the MSC Analytical Laboratory Manager, the candidate will work closely with our production, sales and research functions.
Education / Experience required for the job:
- Graduate in an appropriate materials or science discipline.
- Previous experience is desirable but not essential. Any previous work experience with the following techniques would be a strong advantage: SEM, XRD, XRF, AA and ICP.
- An organised approach to work with the ability to effectively prioritise workload.
- An effective communicator with well developed written, presentation and verbal skills and the ability to collaborate within a dynamic team environment.
- Must have excellent project management skills, be a self motivated worker with ability to develop structured project plans and implement these in a timely manner.
- Good IT skills with a sound understanding of Microsoft Office tools.
