URGENT | Senior JAVA Developer
Permanent Job based in London, UK
£80,000 Salary plus excellent benefits package

Eden Recruitment is working closely with a London based publishing related company which is currently looking to recruit a talented Senior JAVA Developer for their App Development team.

The Developer will be tasked with designing, developing, and maintaining applications for real-time publishing systems working in an agile-based environment building creative Internet syndication products using technologies such as:

Java, MySql, Javascript, Jsp, XML, Linux and RSS

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy Java based news and social media applications.
  • Providing architectural input to project-related decisions.
  • Function as a team lead, working closely with Engineering Manager to coordinate activities for a small team of developers.
  • Define systems that include both hardware and software components.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision and a geographically dispersed team.
  • Use industry best practices to deliver high quality code.
Requirements (Must Have Skills):

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional software development experience (with 5 years of expertise in Java coding).
  • Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering.
  • Experience developing J2EE web based applications (JBoss or Jetty preferred).
  • Understanding of networking and how applications work through the networks.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Innately curious and someone who likes exploring and experimenting and evaluating new technology.


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Hibernate and Spring
  • Experience with e-commerce
  • Experience with large scale web systems and big-data systems
  • Experience with large volume XML and HTML parsers and generators
  • Experience with AJAX and working knowledge of XML, RSS, or Atom
  • Experience developing web-based GUI applications using JSPs, Javascript and Struts
  • Experience with agile testing methodologies including test-first development and unit test automation
  • Solid Linux skills including scripting expertise in languages such as Perl and UNIX shells
  • Experience with JMS, Apache, and Ant
  • Strong MySql design, tuning, and experience with very large databases
  • Experience with Solr and Lucene a plus, especially if at a search related company, on mission critical projects
  • Experience with Subversion, JIRA and Greenhopper
  • Experience with Perl a plus
  • C/C++ experience a plus
