R&D Principal Engineer
In this position your primary role is to be responsible for the Design and Development of new technologies and/or products that support ongoing business objectives. You will provide leadership and expertise to R&D, manufacturing and product quality.
Principle accountabilities:
• Lead R&D team members in the design and development of creative, innovative, mechanical, electrical or chemical solutions which lead to the development and introduction of new technologies, products and/or processes that support ongoing business objectives.
• Identify material selection and provide extrusion engineering leadership in establishing extrusion process parameters using scientific principles ensuring process capabilities of 1.33 or better.
• Generate design documentation such as requirements specifications, schematics, DFMEA, verification test procedures and test reports under FDA/TUV and QSR design control practices.
• Lead and/or participate in requirements, peer and design reviews as they pertain to new technologies or products.
• Produce regular progress reports on assigned projects. Conduct measurements and analysis, Design of Experiments, create engineering designs, develop plans and keep laboratory notebooks on all projects.
• Assist in product/process introduction, production troubleshooting, complaint investigation or individual measurement and analysis projects.
• Collect and analyze pertinent information and make recommendations with respect to project patent opportunities.
• Monitor and evaluate competitor products when applicable.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
• Advanced engineering degree (Polymer or Mechanical) or equivalent with a thorough working knowledge of engineering principles is essential.
• Ten plus years in the medical device industry or regulated environment with demonstrated excellence in polymer extrusion, injection moulding and plastic joining technologies resulting in qualified medical devices.
• A successful track record in plastic fabrication processes using a variety of plastics, including PVC, ABS and polycarbonate polymers.
• Proven success leading R&D teams in new product development with strong project management experience from concept through commercialization.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of the design control process, GMP and ISO standards.
• Experience in Minitab and Crystal Ball an advantage, not essential.
Preferred requirements
• Demonstrated utilization of Design for Six Sigma, Design for Manufacture/Assembly and Design for Test Methodologies would be highly desirable. Black Belt certified and experienced in SolidWorks is a plus.
• Able to resolve quality issues using a methodical approach leading to sustainable corrective actions.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to overcome obstacles. A well organized self-starter, effective in time management and willing to work in a cross functional environment. Ability to travel internationally, when required.
