Safety Case Risk Analyst

A leading Irish energy provider, Bord Gáis is the owner, and through an operating agreement with Gaslink is responsible for building and operating the transmission and distribution networks delivering gas to over 600,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers. The company is also a major energy supplier, serving both the gas and electricity retail markets in Ireland. New business development includes gas transport networks in Northern Ireland and Great Britain. The liberalisation of Irish and European energy markets brings new challenges for the company. Applications are now invited from suitably qualified candidates for the national coverage position of Safety Case Risk Analyst.

The Role:
Reporting to the Standards & Compliance Manager, the Safety Case Risk Analyst will support the Networks Enterprise Risk Management process in ensuring compliance to standards, specifications and procedures through continuous monitoring and review and coordinating the application of best practice requirements within the Networks business.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
•Providing support to the Standards & Compliance Manager in relation to the management of Transmission and Distribution Safety Cases
•Ensuring the timely closure of actions from the Gas Safety Committee and Bord Gáis Networks [BGN]/Commission for Energy Regulation [CER]/Gaslink Interface meetings
•Working with BGN departments and external bodies on the Carbon Monoxide Alarms project, other Asset / Safety Case safety programmes and associated Asset / Safety Case Risk Review Committee [RRC] and Gaslink/CER reporting
•Supporting the Asset/Safety Case Risk Review Committee in the execution of its objectives
•Ensuring that CER Audit and Inspection recommendations are acted upon and closed out in a timely manner
•Identifying and documenting Material Changes to the Safety Cases in line with CER requirements
•Updating Safety Cases to reflect approved material changes and verifying implementation of the change
•Supporting the Third Party Damage Strategy Group in the pursuance of its objectives
•Provide quarterly Safety Case KPI reports and associated trending to Gaslink/CER
•Management of safety case and material change risk registers and issues related to gas standards compliance, business compliance, legal risk and process changes
•Identifying gaps and analysing issues within materials used, technical processes, competence and procedures
•Co-ordination of improvement initiatives across various divisions of the networks business to ensure Standards and Safety Case compliance
•Supporting business continuity, emergency preparedness and emergency exercise activities
•Other duties may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience:
•Engineering degree (or other relevant third level qualification)
•Minimum of five years relevant technical expertise in a regulated gas industry environment
•Strong project management capabilities
•Good business acumen with broad experience
•Knowledge of PAS 55 Asset Management Systems and/or ISO9001 Quality Management Systems
•Excellent communication, presentation, writing and interpersonal skills
•Candidate must be a highly motivated, flexible and targets focussed
•Working knowledge of relevant CEN, NSAI Irish Gas Standards and Network Operational Procedures
•Proven ability to create and develop good working relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals, coupled with the ability to gain commitment from others
•Experience with identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas and implementing solutions
•Have excellent analytical skills and be able to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
•Ability to set up ongoing procedures to collect and review information as needed
•Proactively identifying new areas of learning and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job
•Ability to set own high standards of performance and delivering desired results
